Shell Out

Kate Honey is a composer based in Bristol, UK. Her work has been performed in venues such as the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ, the Southbank Centre and National Concert Hall of Ireland, and covered in international media. As well as concert music she composes for games, film and multimedia installations. Her dominant focus is a creative response to the environmental crisis.

‘Shell Symphony’ is the title of the three-part piece that Honey wrote for the occasion. With militant rhythms it will erupt on Thursday evening at six o’clock on the Amsterdam Museumplein. Honey grabs the score and sings: ‘pakke-dakke-dak rakke-takke-tak!’ The samba band Amsterdam Rhythms of Resistance fires its volleys at the Royal Concertgebouw, the national temple of classical music. Waves of melodies are heard on the flutes, oboes and saxes of the group Musicians Against Climate Change…
